Day 3 (11 June):
Before we start our journey, our driver brought us to buy fried buns - 烤包子! They were delicious!! There's meat in them and it's juicy!
Then, we proceeded to Jiaohe Ruins early in the morning and the scenery was awesome! See it for yourself! After climbing up to take a few photos, we were reprimanded for not walking on the walking trails. The people said they will have to fine us if we continue to climb. Haha! Besides that, I was pricked by this plant while climbing up one of the slopes.
Let's continue with the sightseeing...
When everything seems to be too similar, we were up to mischief!
And this is an Ancient Infant Cemetery
There were some construction going on in that area. Pay attention to the words.
After this, we moved on to Tuyu Valley - 吐峪沟
And why were we dressed that way? Xinjiang is a Muslim country. At rural areas, it is best to cover ourselves up and reveal as little flesh as possible. So out of respect, we did it! Cool isn't it? I do look like a Muslim in tudong. The temperature was still above 40 degrees celcius I guess.
Along the way, our driver plucked mulberries for us! There were whitish green, but sweet and juicy!
There's a mosque in this village.
And a hidden well in this building. We saw the locals carrying pails of water out from this building.
Saw some cute kids along the way and took photos with them. Only to hear the adults telling them to get money from us. We walked away pretending not to know anything. Sigh! Where has the innocence of children gone to? What have the adults done to poison their minds?
Next up was the Bezeklik - 柏孜克里千佛洞
In every cave, there's 1000 Buddha paintings in them. That's how it got its name. It's a pity that some of the paintings had been destroyed and we were not allowed to take any photos inside the caves.
And this handicapped man was playing music and making a living at the far end. We each had a go at the instrument when he played the drum. I forgot how much we paid him. But it was not very expensive.
And the flaming mountains was just at the entrance of the Bezeklik.
Was told that it was 5 Yuan to ride on the camel to take photos. Then a man came and brought me and the camel for a ride. Conned to pay 50 Yuan at the end. Still cheap though. But beware of such tricks in the future. I learnt my lesson. That's the man who conned me!
We went all the way to the small pavillion you see in this picture.
After this ordeal, our driver brought us to a local eating place to have our lunch. And he introduced this KA WA SI drink to us. It tastes a little like apple juice. That's Elaine's favorite drink. Thus she's in the picture.
Again, we had BBQ lamb, ding ding mian and some dumplings.
After lunch, we went back to our hotel. Finally, I get to take a nice picture of our comfortable hotel!
After a 2 hours rest in the hotel, we venture out to look for dinner. We took a cab and was recommended this stall for BBQ lamb. It was the best we had for the entire trip!
Look at how happy Elaine was! We ordered a second plate after the first round of juicy lamb and tasty naan.
We ended the day eating Mr Wa(l)ter and Mr Hamid in our hotel room toilet. And we had a hilarious time laughing while getting fed by Elaine and entertained by "Ann". And I must say, the fruits were really sweet!!!
End of day 3!
